The application of bio systems in the development of gene tools has proven efficacy for altered methylation patterns that develop genetic disorders, cancer and aging. Primer design studies has shown changes occurring in DNA used as molecular markers of cell degradation mechanisms leading to disease or changes in tissue structure and function.
Real time PCR is a reliable and easy to use technique to detect and measure DNA methylation by direct monitoring of a PCR reaction useful for both research and routine diagnostics. Because aging is the result of general deterioration of the body's cells increasing with age, primer design analysis can help to determine contributing factors to delay the process.
New gene tools are the response to genomics-based approach to human genetics proposed in the 1990's, however, aging treatments based on the study and capture of the human DNA sequence variations information are not financially feasible yet. However, by lowering the costs of real time PCR will increase the power of gene tools to identify the origin of cells aging.
Stacey Gabriel, director of the Broad Institute's Genetic Analysis said, "when we started doing this work a number of years ago, determining the genotype of a SNP in a patient cost nearly a dollar, and we could do hundreds a day. Today the prices have dropped in many cases to a fraction of a penny per genotype, and we can do millions a day. This is the difference between not being able to do the studies, and getting them done rapidly and well."
Primer design is the initial element required to set an anti-aging methodology based on gene structure, hence allowing improved automation of real time PCR. In addition, a large number of computer-based primer design algorithms are available to researchers interested in determining the aging process from the approach of DNA for mapping chromatin domains, while reducing costs.
Research lead by the National Institute of Aging (NIA) found that defective WRNp protein is involved in premature aging disorder, helping scientist to understand primer design analysis toward DNA repair, which becomes less efficient during normal human aging. The NIA is one of the 25 institutes of the National Institutes of Health, leading the Federal effort in supporting research on aging.
Gene Tools, including Real time PCR, are powerful identifiers of gene expression patterns modifying DNA that eventually contribute to develop aging-related diseases such as Parkinson disease, Alzheimer's disease and the Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) referred to as a premature aging syndrome.
